Pronunciation.

Well after listening to the podcast for a while it's been kindof bugging me the way they pronounce some common words in Runescape.
The idea of this thread is to try to clarify how common words like Ardougne and Karamja are pronounced.

Ardougne, according to the Postbage from the Hedge article 35 it is pronounced Arr-doyn.

Karamja, according to the Postbag from the Hedge article 35 it is pronounced Ker-ram-jar.

One of the God Letters on the Runescape website clarified how to pronounce the Gods names.
Guh-thix, Sair-ah-doh-min and Zam-oh-rock. I'm not sure exactly which article it was but I might go find it and post which one it was.

Varrock, this one is completely debatable. It could eastly be vah-rock or vair-ock.
I would personally assume vah-rock, but I might change my mind if anyone has a reason proving otherwise.

Yea, we know that we are butchering some of the things. The main problem is that, unlike alot of moderen video games, RS is text only, so there are no charictors to say the words. I've been called on the Ardougne one before, but never the Karamja. The more I think about it though, Karamja does sound a bit spanish, thus haveing the spanish pronunciation rules. My thought had always been that because it is an english company, it should have english pronunciation, but I guess thats not always the case.

Well they do have Dutch and French servers. =p

By the way another French word with a silent g is vignette and is pronounced vin-yet.

I could find more examples but that's the only one I can think of off the top of my head.

Hey! I did some more research and found out that article 35 of the Postbag from the Headge actually tells us how to pronounce several names and location from runescape. Here's what they had.

Al Kharid = Al-car-rid
Ardougne = Arr-doyn (Well the g is silent lol)
Burgh de Rott = Bur-der-rot
Karamja = Ker-ram-jar =(
Meiyerditch = My-err-ditch
Morytania = Morry-tay-nee-ah
Phasmatys = Faz-mat-iss
Jatizso = Yah-tizz-so (?)
Neitiznot = Nay-tizz-not
Sanguinesti = Sang-gwin-nest-ee
Yanille = Yah-neel

The elven language is supposed to be more complex, but in general...

Lletya = Let-ya

Isafdar = Iss-aff-daar.

So yeah I sortof got my face kicked in but whatever, the truth has been revealed.

Also, "melee" is sorta like "may-lay", not "mee-lee".

Well I guess that settles the Ardougne debate. But, honestly Ker-ram-jar just sound retarded, do I'm going to keep saying Ka-ram-ja.

In the last podcast Ben said "are-dah-gue" rofl.
